ONE THOUSANDTH OF THE EARTH'S SURFACE IS PAVED ROAD
-
It is estimated that there are 18,867,871 km of paved road and 330,068 km of expressway (CIA World Factbook, 2017). Assuming that a lane is about 3.75 m wide and that paved roads generally have 2 lanes while expressways are twice as wide, then there are about 144,000 square-km of paved road. The land surface of the Earth is 148,940,000 square-km (Wikipedia, 2017), so paved roads are about 0.0967% or one thousandth. Check our calculation but whatever there's a lot of driving to be done.
WE WORK ON THE REST
MeshNav
Unlike on-road autonomy, MeshNav doesn't need road markings or GPS to avoid danger. It collects high-fidelity terrain data and then simulates how your vehicle might surmount terrain to find any safe routes available.
-
Navigate
Our navigation technology models surrounding terrain to find clear and efficient routes that can be driven at the fastest safe speed.
-
Locate
Our localization technology correlates sensor observations with navigational map to estimate position and velocity without need for GPS.
-
Analyze
Our classification technology can analyze rover images to understand surroundings and orbital information to determine regional properties.
Field Tested
Researchers at Mesh Robotics have been field testing off-road robotic systems for over 20 years. We understand what it takes to build systems that are effective, efficient and reliable. Our robots travel autonomously for hundreds of kilometers in deserts, fields, forests and polar regions of the world.
We long ago left the laboratory to discover and demonstrate what really works.
